DHARAMSHALA / SHIMLA: Following widespread devastation caused by a recent cloudburst in the Boh Valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday promised all possible relief and the swift restoration of basic services in the affected areas.
Deputy Chief Whip Keval Singh Pathania, who was visiting the ground zero in Boh Valley, briefed Chief Minister Sukhu via phone about the extent of the damage. During the conversation, the Chief Minister took stock of the situation and expressed his condolences to the impacted families.
CM Sukhu also interacted directly with affected villagers over the phone, reassuring them that the state government stands firmly with them during this hour of crisis. He emphasized that the government’s top priority remains ensuring safe shelter along with immediate administrative and financial assistance for those hit by the disaster.
Updating the Chief Minister on the relief operations, Pathania said the district administration has strictly implemented government instructions. Cash relief of ₹25,000 each has been provided to 19 families whose homes were completely destroyed in the calamity, alongside relief kits containing daily essential items. Additionally, 17 families whose houses suffered partial damage were handed immediate financial aid of ₹10,000 each.
Pathania pointed out that the cloudburst caused extensive damage to both public and private infrastructure, disrupting normal life across the valley. He appealed to the Chief Minister for the urgent repair of damaged roads, restoration of drinking water supply lines, and early resumption of all key public services to ease the hardship of local residents.
Addressing these concerns, CM Sukhu assured that the restoration of basic infrastructure is being treated as a top priority. He directed officials to work on a war footing to repair roads and restore water supply to bring normalcy back at the earliest.
The Chief Minister announced that he will personally visit the Boh Valley soon to assess the total destruction on the ground. Meanwhile, with the Meteorological Department predicting heavy rainfall across Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, Sukhu urged citizens to remain alert and cautious.
