HAMIRPUR: A case of alleged ragging has surfaced at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College and Hospital in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. An MBBS first-year student has lodged a complaint with the college administration, bringing more than half a dozen second-year MBBS students under the scanner.
The college administration initiated an immediate inquiry following the complaint. On Monday, the college’s anti-ragging committee held a crucial meeting to review various aspects of the grievance.
According to officials, the victim is a student from outside the state who submitted a written complaint to the college administration via an anonymous email. The student alleged that some senior students mistreated him and caused mental harassment. The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday.
Principal Dr. Ramesh Bharti stated that the institution received an anonymous complaint regarding the matter. Based on the complaint, immediate action was taken, and students under suspicion were questioned thoroughly. He added that the anti-ragging committee is investigating the case with complete transparency given its sensitivity.
Anti-Ragging Committee Conducts Closed-Door Inquiry
The college administration noted that more than half a dozen second-year MBBS students are suspected of involvement in the alleged incident. To address the gravity of the situation, the anti-ragging committee convened on Monday.
During the meeting, the students under suspicion were summoned individually and questioned behind closed doors. The committee also recorded statements from the concerned students to uncover the facts.
Authorities have yet to determine whether the alleged incident took place inside the college campus, the hostel, or at a private accommodation or rented room outside the premises. The college management is factoring in this angle as well. No student has been proven guilty so far, and the actual sequence of events will become clear only after the investigation concludes.
Dr. Ramesh Bharti reiterated that the case is under active investigation. He stated that if any student is found guilty in the inquiry report, strict disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the rules, which could include expulsion. All eyes remain on the college administration’s investigation as authorities work to identify the responsible students and determine the appropriate disciplinary measures.
