Nahan: Bharatiya Janata Party Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal has launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, alleging that nearly four years of the administration led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu have been marked by corruption, nepotism, mafia activities, financial mismanagement, and anti-people policies.
Addressing a BJP workshop in the Nahan Assembly constituency, Dr. Bindal said that instead of advancing development, the Congress government has trapped the state in a vicious cycle of mounting debt, rising financial burdens, and administrative disorder.
He alleged that the Sukhu government has dealt a double blow to ordinary families by increasing taxes on diesel, cement prices, electricity charges, transport fares, stamp duty, and public services, while failing to curb mafia activities.
“The government that was supposed to provide relief to the poor has instead disturbed the household budgets of ordinary families. The Congress government will be remembered for taxes, mismanagement, and the closure of public institutions rather than development,” Dr. Bindal said. He added that shutting down or reorganising educational institutions, healthcare facilities, veterinary hospitals, sub-tehsil offices, and patwar circles has created severe hardships for rural residents, alongside concerns over welfare schemes like school uniforms, HIMCARE, and the Sahara scheme.
Borrowed Thousands of Crores, Squandered on Political Appointees
Dr. Bindal alleged that the Congress government has borrowed approximately ₹45,000 crore during its tenure without improving the state’s financial standing. He questioned the expenditure on political appointments, advisers, Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons while employees, pensioners, and unemployed youth face financial strain.
“When employees are waiting for their dues, pensioners are struggling, and unemployed youth are searching for opportunities, how can the government justify spending public money on political appointments and administrative extravagance?” he asked.
Betrayal of Women and Unemployed Youth
Accusing the Congress of securing power through unfulfilled electoral guarantees, Dr. Bindal said that eligible women are still waiting for the promised ₹1,500 per month financial assistance, which accumulates to roughly ₹75,000 per woman since December 2022.
He also questioned the government’s employment guarantees of one lakh government jobs and five lakh employment opportunities, noting that youth are demanding answers on recruitment and job creation. Furthermore, he criticized the failure to deliver free electricity and the rising financial strain on consumers.
Protests Over Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Congress MP
Highlighting statewide protests by the BJP Mahila Morcha, Dr. Bindal demanded that the Congress leadership clarify its stance on serious sexual harassment allegations against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who represents Inner Manipur in the Lok Sabha.
He pointed to complaints made by women at Jawaharlal Nehru University and subsequent university disciplinary actions, demanding a transparent response and an impartial investigation. During the demonstrations across Himachal Pradesh, women workers burnt effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, raising slogans to demand accountability and protection for complainants.
“Making speeches about women’s dignity is easy, but ensuring accountability when serious allegations emerge against a member of one’s own party is the real test of leadership,” Dr. Bindal said.
Concluding his address, Dr. Bindal asserted that the people of Himachal Pradesh are politically aware and will deliver a decisive verdict against the government’s policies, broken promises, and additional financial burdens in the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
