National News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the launch, expected around January 18-19. The train will connect Howrah, West Bengal, and Guwahati, Assam. It promises modern amenities and shockingly low fares designed to be far cheaper than air travel, offering a new luxury option for medium-distance journeys.
The new service is slated to begin operations in mid-January. Minister Vaishnaw stated a formal announcement of the date will come within the next few days. The launch hinges on the Prime Minister’s schedule. All necessary preparations and clearances for the new route are reportedly complete.
Fares Drastically Lower Than Flights
The minister provided a direct cost comparison to highlight affordability. An air ticket between Guwahati and Howrah costs between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000. In contrast, fares on the new sleeper train will include meals. Third AC will cost approximately ₹2,300, Second AC around ₹3,000, and First AC roughly ₹3,600.
Premium Amenities and Safety
This train boasts several advanced features for comfort and efficiency. It includes enhanced safety systems and modern suspension for a smooth ride. The design uses energy-saving traction technology and improved aerodynamics. Passenger facilities have been upgraded to ensure reliability on long-distance routes.
Regional Cuisine on the Menu
A focus on regional hospitality will enhance the travel experience. Passengers boarding from Guwahati will be served Assamese cuisine. Those embarking from Howrah will enjoy traditional Bengali dishes. This initiative allows travelers to experience local culture directly during their journey.
