The Iranian Embassy in India announced the deactivation of all bank accounts previously designated for monetary contributions on Friday. The decision follows a significant surge in donations from across the country, prompting the mission to request that citizens refrain from making further transfers to any accounts claiming to represent the Embassy.
In an official communiqué released via X, the Embassy stated:
“In appreciation of the commendable support and solidarity of the noble people of India, it is hereby informed that the Embassy accounts previously designated for receiving monetary contributions have now been deactivated.”
Symbolic Sacrifices: Gold, Silver, and Heirlooms
The humanitarian response was marked by deeply personal contributions, particularly from the Kashmir region. Diplomats highlighted the story of a widow who donated a gold memento belonging to her late husband, who passed away 28 years ago.
The Embassy noted that such “pure emotions” served as a primary source of comfort for the Iranian people during the current crisis. Reports from Budgam indicate that local residents established collection stalls at Masjid Imam Zaman, where women contributed jewelry, copper, and cash to assist Iran in the wake of escalating regional tensions.
A Legacy of Solidarity
The Iranian mission emphasized that the “kindness and humanity” displayed by Indians would be remembered indefinitely. This wave of support comes at a critical juncture following the death of veteran Iranian leader Kamal Kharazi, an influential figure who succumbed to injuries sustained in recent US-Israeli airstrikes.
Mohsin Ali, a volunteer in Budgam, told ANI that the donation drive was a way for locals to serve humanity when they could not be physically present to assist. “Our mothers and sisters are contributing jewelry and cash so that we can support Iran in its current situation,” he stated.
The Embassy concluded its mission of gratitude by reaffirming that the bonds forged through this humanitarian support have left an indelible mark on the diplomatic and emotional ties between the two nations.
