Tamil Nadu: The political landscape of Tamil Nadu is abuzz with the sudden resignation of former BJP state president K. Annamalai. The high-profile leader has submitted his resignation to BJP national president Nitin Nabin, triggering intense speculation about his next move.
According to sources, the party high command made extensive efforts to persuade Annamalai to stay. However, he politely declined, stating that he wished to carve out his own path forward. He is expected to take a major decision regarding his political future soon.
Kuppusamy Annamalai, a native of Tamil Nadu, holds degrees in engineering and management. He cleared the UPSC examination to join the Indian Police Service (IPS) as a 2011-batch Karnataka cadre officer. Known for his fierce and upright policing style, he earned widespread popularity during his nine-year tenure.
In 2020, Annamalai resigned from the IPS to enter politics, joining the BJP the very same year. Recognizing his dynamism, the party quickly appointed him as the vice-president of its Tamil Nadu unit, where he rapidly emerged as a prominent political face in the state.
By 2021, Annamalai was appointed as the state president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, becoming one of the youngest leaders to hold the post. Under his leadership, the party launched several organizational campaigns, including his highly publicized ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ (My Land, My People) padayatra to connect with the masses.
Known for his aggressive political style and sharp rhetoric, Annamalai frequently took on the ruling DMK government. All eyes are now on his next move, which could potentially reshape political equations in Tamil Nadu.
