Kullu: Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut on Monday again targeted the Sukhu government over the rising debt burden in Himachal Pradesh. She spoke to the media after attending a DISHA meeting in Dhalpur, Kullu district, and raised concerns about the state’s development schemes.

The BJP MP said the state needs to contribute revenue under the Prime Minister’s mission for a developed India. “Everyone knows that Himachal is able to give very little revenue to the Centre and we are not showing any improvement in this. Especially the Congress government has broken its backbone by taking loans. The Prime Minister has given several tools to departments on how to move forward. But the way the Congress government is running, we will completely sink,” she said.

The DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting was held under her leadership at Bachat Bhawan in Dhalpur, the headquarters of Kullu district. During the meeting, the MP shared details of development works being carried out by the central government. Officials informed her that 80 per cent of the works in Kullu district have been completed and the remaining ones are also nearing completion.

Kangana Ranaut expressed satisfaction over the ongoing development works in the district and urged officials to complete all pending works at the earliest so that more schemes of the central government can be brought to Kullu.

She said most officers are doing good work, but the working style of some is not satisfactory. Directions have been given to those officers to complete the tasks soon.

The MP also noted that the Congress government in the state has taken a large amount of loans from the Centre. Despite this, the central government continues to help the state. Several central schemes are benefiting the whole of Himachal, she said. Kangana Ranaut added that she is herself monitoring all centrally sponsored schemes and taking feedback from officials from time to time.

The issue of narcotics being sold at various places in Kullu district also figured prominently during the DISHA meeting. The MP directed police officers to take strict action so that the young generation is not ruined by drugs being sold from wooden kiosks in small locations of the district.

Kangana Ranaut said the police need to work with the state government to bring a strict law. She pointed out that the young generation has been completely ruined after getting trapped in the drug net in other states, and the same trend is continuously increasing in Himachal.

Although police are arresting accused in several cases, they are getting freed due to weak rules and then returning to the same drug trafficking business. She suggested that the police should put a proposal before the government for such a law so that drug trafficking is not encouraged.
