GST Registration News: Starting November 1, 2025, signing up for Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India is about to get a whole lot simpler. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that new applicants will get their GST registration approved in just three working days under the new GST 2.0 system. Speaking at an event, she shared that this move, backed by the GST Council, aims to make the process smoother and cut down on human involvement.
The new setup will automatically fast-track registration for two groups: those flagged as low-risk based on data analysis and those who self-assess their monthly tax liability as less than ₹2.5 lakh. Sitharaman said about 96% of new applicants will benefit from this quicker approval process.
While inaugurating a new CGST building in Ghaziabad, the Finance Minister stressed that the government’s focus is shifting from just making policies to ensuring they work well on the ground. She urged central and state GST teams to roll out these changes without confusion and to run the system fairly, not on whims.
Sitharaman emphasized treating taxpayers with respect while cracking down hard on tax evaders. “Taxpayers should feel valued as contributors to the nation. If there are bad apples, follow the rules to catch them, but don’t treat everyone like a suspect,” she told officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
The GST system is also getting a makeover with simpler tax slabs, easier return filing, automatic refunds, and risk-based audits. These steps aim to make the system fairer, more efficient, and growth-friendly.
To ensure smooth operations, Sitharaman directed GST service centers across the country to have enough staff and be easily accessible. Every center should have a helpdesk to guide taxpayers during registration, and field units must conduct internal audits to fix any issues quickly. She also pushed for timely disciplinary action against officials to keep the system honest and transparent.
