As per the Bombay High Court’s order, all existing pigeon houses in Mumbai have been closed. Meanwhile, the court has also directed an interim decision regarding pigeon houses after soliciting objections and suggestions from citizens. In light of this, the BMC has taken an interim decision to allow pigeon houses at four new locations in Mumbai, where pigeons will be fed only during limited hours.

Pigeon feeding is permitted in (1) the Worli Reservoir in the G South Zone, (2) the Mangrove Area, near the Vesave STP Project on Lokhandwala Back Road (Andheri West), (3) the Creek Area in the T Zone, near the Old Airoli-Mulund Zakat Naka, Airoli-Mulund Link Road (Mulund), and (4) near Gorai Maidan in the R Central Zone (Borivali West). However, existing pigeon feeders are not permitted.

2 Hours of Pigeon Feeding Permitted
Pigeon feeding will be permitted in a “controlled” manner at all four locations. According to this, pigeon feeding will only be permitted between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and will not be permitted at any other time. Importantly, this permission will only be granted if a voluntary organization comes forward to manage the pigeon feeders at these four locations. The organization will have to ensure that feeding pigeons does not cause any inconvenience to vehicles and pedestrians. Yes.

Nodal Officers to be Appointed
In addition, pigeon houses will be maintained cleanly and citizens’ complaints will be considered and appropriate action will be taken. An affidavit will be obtained from the establishment to this effect. Assistant Commissioners of the relevant administrative departments will be the nodal officers for pigeon house management. Meanwhile, the BMC has received a total of 9,779 suggestions, objections, and complaints from citizens regarding pigeon houses. This includes all aspects of pigeon house closure, operation, maintaining cleanliness, and providing controlled diets.
