NEW DELHI: Addressing the nation through a video message on Thursday amid widespread protests over the NEET paper leak controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a new bill featuring strict provisions against paper leaks will be introduced in Parliament next week.
PM Modi stated that the draft of the proposed legislation will be discussed during the Union Cabinet meeting on Friday, where the law will be given its final shape.
“On Friday, the Cabinet will discuss the issue of paper leaks, and further action will be decided keeping in mind the suggestions of my Cabinet colleagues,” he said.
He further added that the bill will be tabled in Parliament on Monday with the start of the second week of the Monsoon Session, emphasizing that the government will make every effort to pass it at the earliest.

Acknowledging the gravity of the issue, the Prime Minister noted that paper leaks are not a small problem and cause immense pain to lakhs of students and their parents.
He highlighted that ever since the NEET paper leak allegations surfaced nearly two and a half months ago, the government has taken several stringent measures.
“The culprits have been caught and are now in jail. Our biggest responsibility was to ensure that a academic year for the students is not wasted. Conducting a re-examination immediately was crucial. Utilizing all available resources, the government ensured that 22 lakh students could appear for the re-test,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the results of the medical entrance re-examination were declared on July 19, bringing news of relief and happiness from successful students across the country.
However, PM Modi emphasized that he is not one to remain satisfied with just these steps. “That is why I instructed the concerned officials to set up fast-track courts, and these fast-track courts have already been established,” he added.
