Shimla: In a major relief for kidney patients in Himachal Pradesh, dialysis services have now started at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Speciality Hospital located in Chamiyana near Shimla.
The first dialysis procedure at the hospital was successfully completed on Wednesday. With this development, patients suffering from kidney-related diseases will no longer have to depend entirely on IGMC Shimla for dialysis treatment.
Until now, most patients from Shimla and nearby areas had to visit IGMC for dialysis. Due to the heavy rush of patients there, people often had to wait for long hours. Many patients and their attendants faced both mental stress and financial difficulties because of the delays and repeated hospital visits.
Hospital authorities said the dialysis unit has been fully prepared and its capacity will be expanded further in the coming time. The Health Department stated that the facility will benefit not only patients from Shimla but also those arriving from other districts of the state.
The hospital will provide dialysis treatment through modern machines, which is expected to improve the quality of care for patients.
Medical Superintendent of Super Speciality Hospital Chamiyana, Dr. Sudhir Sharma, described the occasion as an important day for the hospital. He said the successful completion of the first dialysis procedure in Chamiyana is a significant achievement.
He said that until now kidney patients had to visit IGMC Shimla for dialysis, but they will now be able to access the same facility in Chamiyana itself. This will help reduce the additional burden on patients and their families.
Dr. Sudhir Sharma further said that super speciality services at Chamiyana Hospital are continuously being strengthened so that people can receive better treatment under one roof. He also expressed hope that the launch of dialysis services would help reduce the patient load at IGMC and make healthcare services function more smoothly.
