Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has formally announced the rollout of the ‘Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar’ scheme, set to take effect across the state on October 2. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made the key announcement on the floor of the House during the monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The welfare initiative aims to provide direct financial relief and social support to the state’s most vulnerable households. Official figures state that two lakh targeted families will receive a monthly financial aid of ₹1500, which will be directly transferred to the women of the eligible households. Additionally, to ease monthly utility expenses, every beneficiary household will receive 300 units of free electricity every month.
Addressing the Assembly, Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that out of the two lakh selected families, 90,000 households had never been officially listed under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category despite living in severe poverty. He emphasized that the government prioritized extending benefits to impoverished families that had been left out of previous social welfare schemes, ensuring they were selected through a careful identification procedure.
The Rural Development Department has offered a final window for eligible families who were unable to register during the earlier eight survey phases. Families that missed out due to a lack of time or delayed income certificates can submit their applications by September 20. The department noted that no further applications will be accepted once this final deadline passes.
To make the application process easier, administrative requirements have been relaxed. Income certificates issued between July 31, 2025, and July 31, 2026, will be considered valid. To maintain complete transparency, all applications will undergo a three-tier verification process—first at the village level, followed by the development block level, and finally at the district level. The finalized list of beneficiaries will be published on September 25.
The department had previously completed eight rounds of comprehensive surveys to identify eligible families and gathered feedback through direct public interactions. Based on this compiled data, the scheme will officially come into effect starting October 2.
