Kia Sorento: Kia India has released the first official images of the India-spec Sorento, confirming its market launch for September 4, 2026. The premium three-row vehicle will serve as the automaker’s new flagship SUV in the country. Notably, the Sorento marks Kia’s debut in India’s strong-hybrid SUV space. Local assembly has officially started at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, with the first production unit already rolling off the assembly line.
Powertrain Options and All-Wheel Drive
The India-spec Kia Sorento will be offered with two powertrain choices: a strong-hybrid and a diesel engine. The hybrid variant will feature an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) configuration. Pre-bookings for the SUV are now open across authorized Kia dealerships and on the company’s official website.
Dimensions, Design, and Interior Layout
Built on Kia’s latest global SUV design language, the Sorento features a bold front grille and an overall premium road presence. Dimensions for the India-spec model stand at approximately 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width, 1,700mm in height, and a wheelbase measuring 2,815mm.
The SUV is expected to be offered in six- and seven-seat layouts, with higher-spec trims offering second-row captain seats. Cabin equipment includes:

- Panoramic sunroof
- Rotary gear selector
- Ventilated seats
- Wireless phone charging
- Ambient cabin lighting
- Bose audio system
Engine Performance
The strong-hybrid variant expected for India uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, capable of delivering a combined output of around 238-241bhp and 380Nm of torque.
Alongside the hybrid, a 2.2-litre diesel engine will be available. In international markets, this diesel engine generates roughly 202bhp and 441Nm of peak torque.
Tech Innovations and Safety Features
The Sorento will introduce the Kia AI Assistant powered by Live Generative AI. According to Kia, this will be the first production car globally to feature this specific generative AI technology.
Additional safety and driver assistance features include:
- Level 2 ADAS suite
- 360-degree camera system
- Multiple airbags
- Hill Descent Control
- Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
Market Rivals and Price Expectation
The Kia Sorento is expected to carry a starting price tag of around Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon release, it will compete directly against full-size and three-row premium SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian, and MG Majestor.
