Himachal News: A deeply disturbing and heartbreaking case has emerged from Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, shaking the conscience of many. Following the suspicious death of a 19-year-old college student studying in Dharamshala, the matter has now come under intense public scrutiny. A video recorded by the student shortly before her death has gone viral on social media, clearly reflecting her fear, stress, and emotional trauma.
The victim’s father has leveled serious allegations against a professor of the college and a few female students. He claims that his daughter was subjected to caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, and humiliation on the campus—torment that ultimately pushed her to the brink.
According to the complaint filed by the father, the student was repeatedly targeted in the college. It is alleged that on September 18, she was physically assaulted by three fellow students. In addition, a professor has been accused of mentally harassing her and engaging in inappropriate behavior. Family members say that after these incidents, the student lived in constant fear and shock, something she had also shared with them.
The family further stated that due to the alleged harassment at the college, the student had been under severe mental stress for a long time. As her condition worsened, she was first admitted to a hospital and later shifted to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana for better treatment. Despite medical efforts, she passed away during treatment on December 26.
The viral video circulating on social media is said to be from the same period, in which the student can be seen expressing her pain, fear, and emotional distress.
As the case gained momentum, the police also swung into action. Kangra Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratn confirmed the incident and said that, based on the complaint filed by the student’s father, a case has been registered against the accused students and the professor. He added that the police are conducting a fair and thorough investigation, examining all aspects of the case, including the authenticity and content of the viral video.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the state. Many are questioning how safe and respectful educational institutions—often called temples of learning—really are for young students. All eyes are now on the police investigation and the steps that will be taken to ensure justice for the young life lost.
