Chinese Robot Dog Sparks Row: Galgotias University faced a major setback at a big AI event in Delhi. The well-known university was told to clear its stall and leave the venue during the AI Impact Summit. The trouble started because of a robot dog displayed at their booth.
The university had brought a robot dog named ‘Orion’ and showed it as part of their exhibit. At first, it was presented as linked to their innovation and research work. Many visitors saw it as an example of advanced technology from the university.
Soon, things changed. People on social media pointed out that the robot was not made in India. Instead, it came from a Chinese company called Unitree Robotics. It was identified as the Unitree Go2 model, which is already sold around the world. Videos and posts spread quickly online. Many users accused the university of passing off foreign technology as its own Indian creation.
The summit organizers stepped in because of these complaints. They said it broke the event rules to display a foreign product without clear information and call it local innovation. They felt this also went against the spirit of campaigns like ‘Make in India’. Because of this, they asked Galgotias University to remove their stall and vacate the space.
After the issue grew, the university released a statement. They said they never claimed to have fully built the robot themselves. According to them, the robot dog was used only as a learning tool. It helped students understand artificial intelligence and robotics better. Still, the name given to it and the viral videos created confusion among people. This made the matter worse.
The incident at the AI summit has become an important lesson. It shows how careful educational institutions must be when displaying technology. They need to be very clear about where their tools and projects come from. This event has reminded everyone in the education and tech world to stay honest and transparent.
