MG Hector Tomahawk EV: JSW MG Motor India is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in the Indian market with the upcoming launch of a new SUV. The company is set to unveil the MG Hector Tomahawk EV on August 26, a move expected to significantly strengthen its position in the rapidly growing domestic EV segment.
The upcoming electric SUV will be a rebadged version of an existing global vehicle model. Crucially, it will be the first car in India based on MG’s flexible ADAPT platform, which was introduced last month and designed to support multiple drivetrain configurations.
The Hector Tomahawk EV is widely expected to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight S (known in certain markets as the Starlight 560 or Wuling Xingyun). JSW MG Motor India will initially launch the all-electric version of the vehicle, with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant anticipated to enter the market at a later stage.
Positioned in the premium 7-seater electric SUV segment, the Hector Tomahawk EV is expected to be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will directly compete with rivals such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the Mahindra XEV 9e, and the upcoming Tata Safari EV.
Expected Specifications, Battery, and Range
While MG Motor India has not yet officially revealed the detailed specifications for the Indian market, global models provide a clear picture of what to expect.
In international markets, the fully electric variant features a 69.2 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor. This setup generates 201 horsepower and 310 Nm of peak torque, delivering a claimed driving range of up to 530 kilometres on a single charge.
Additionally, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery. In pure electric mode, the hybrid variant offers a range of up to 125 kilometres, while the combined petrol-electric powertrain provides a total driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometres.
If MG brings these exact powertrain specifications and range capabilities to the Indian market, the Hector Tomahawk EV could prove to be a major game-changer for the brand in India’s electric mobility space.
