The Aam Aadmi Party has removed senior leader Raghav Chadha from his position as deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha and appointed Punjab MP Ashok Mittal in his place.
A formal communication has been sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat informing the change. The party has also requested that Chadha no longer receive extended speaking time from the AAP’s quota in the Upper House.
Chadha, who has served as deputy leader since 2023, has drawn significant attention on social media in recent days for highlighting a range of public interest issues in Parliament. These include concerns over high prices at airports and problems faced by delivery workers, moves that have boosted his visibility among supporters.
The party has given no official explanation for the decision. Sources within AAP, however, point to possible lapses in party discipline and instances where Chadha appeared to stray from the official party line. His conspicuous silence after the acquittal of AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia has also fueled speculation about internal tensions.
The development comes at a time when Chadha’s interventions in the House had been frequent and often generated public debate. With Mittal now stepping into the role, the party appears to be tightening its coordination in the Rajya Sabha.
