Bilaspur EVM Security News: The security protocol surrounding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Bilaspur has come under intense scrutiny following a significant lapse at the Zila Parishad building. During a surprise inspection conducted by the police department, a head constable assigned to the security detail was found missing from his designated post.

The gravity of the situation is heightened by the fact that these specific EVMs are central to a legal challenge currently pending before the Honorable High Court. In light of the judicial sensitivity of the matter, the police administration has initiated immediate disciplinary proceedings against the official in question.

According to departmental reports, the head constable was absent during both the morning and evening shifts. Taking swift note of this negligence in a high-sensitivity zone, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Bilaspur, has served a formal ‘show-cause notice’ to the accused, demanding an immediate explanation for his absence.

“A head constable was found absent from EVM security duty at the Zila Parishad building. A show-cause notice has been issued, and a thorough investigation into the matter is underway. Any form of negligence or indiscipline regarding duty will not be tolerated,” stated Shiv Kumar Chaudhary, ASP Bilaspur.

The security of these machines is considered paramount as they are linked to an election petition filed by Bambar Thakur, who has challenged the poll results in the High Court. Given that the matter is sub-judice, any breach in the established security protocol could lead to serious legal complications and impact the transparency of the judicial process.

This incident is not an isolated case of security failure in the district. In November 2025, a similar lapse occurred when eight personnel—comprising two head constables and six constables—were found missing from their posts at the Bilaspur College and Lakhanpur EVM centers. At that time, the entire team was immediately sent to the police lines as a punitive measure.

The recurrence of such a lapse within a few months has raised serious questions regarding the efficacy of the department’s monitoring systems. While the police administration has initiated action in the current case, the repeated failure of personnel to adhere to high-stakes security duties suggests a persistent gap in departmental oversight.
