Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the highly anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on April 14. Built at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore, the 210-km long corridor aims to redefine connectivity between the national capital and Uttarakhand.
The expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time. Commuters who currently spend five to six hours on the road will soon be able to cover the distance in approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
A standout feature of this project is the 12-km long elevated wildlife corridor starting from Ganeshpur in Saharanpur. It is recognized as the largest of its kind in Asia, designed specifically to traverse the Rajaji National Park without disturbing the natural habitat.
Engineers have integrated specialized “sound barriers” and directional lighting systems along this stretch. These measures ensure that vehicle noise and headlights do not intrude into the forest, allowing animal movement to remain unaffected beneath the structure.
The expressway begins at Akshardham in Delhi and passes through four key districts of Uttar Pradesh: Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur. Within Delhi, a 17-km elevated section has been constructed to bypass local traffic congestion.
This infrastructure project serves as a strategic link between the two regions. By providing a seamless route, the corridor is positioned as a symbol of modern engineering that balances high-speed transit with environmental conservation.
