Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s prophecy-like words from an election rally have returned to haunt the established Dravidian giants. A 16-second video clip of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, filmed at an undated rally before the Tamil Nadu elections, has gone viral across social media platforms.
In the widely shared clip, Vijay is heard making a pointed declaration. “There are many jackals and other animals in the jungle, but there will be only one lion. And even if he is alone, he will still be the king of the jungle,” Vijay states. He then firmly adds, “This is not just a statement, it is a clear announcement.”
The resurfaced clip gained massive traction as his party TVK crossed the 100-seat threshold in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The debutant party’s stunning surge toward the majority mark of 118 triggered spontaneous celebrations across the state. Party workers and supporters gathered in large numbers outside the party headquarters in Panaiyur, shouting slogans of ‘TVK’ and ‘Vijay’, and distributing sweets.

Supporters were heard addressing Vijay as “Muthalamaichar (Chief Minister) Vijay” and chanting his popular film moniker “Thalapathy (Commander)” during the jubilant scenes. Television channels showed visuals of Vijay’s father Chandrasekhar and select family members looking visibly pleased and emotional at the emerging results.
By 5 PM, TVK was leading in at least 109 out of the 234 constituencies. Vijay himself was leading in the Tiruchirappalli (East) constituency by a margin exceeding 3,000 votes. In another major development, party leader V.S. Babu emerged as a giant-killer, leading against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Kolathur by over 2,551 votes at the time of reporting.
On the other side, the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) delivered a disappointing performance, leading in only 45 seats. The DMK remained the alliance’s largest party but was ahead in just 37 seats, trailing far behind its stated target of winning over 100 constituencies.
The AIADMK-led NDA alliance was placed second with leads in only 74 seats. According to the Election Commission, the third round of counting was underway as several constituencies had completed over 20 rounds of counting.
