Singer Gopi Jacks Booked in Shimla After Police Band Constable Alleges Defamation and Harassment

Shimla police have registered an FIR against singer Gopi Jacks based on a complaint by police band constable Deepika Thakur, who alleged public defamation and harassment. Another complaint alleging workplace harassment and illegal surveillance has also been filed by female band members.

SHIMLA: Shimla district police have registered an FIR against singer Gopi Jacks following a complaint filed by Constable Deepika Thakur, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Police band ‘Harmony of the Pines’. The case was registered at the Women Police Station in BCS under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a detailed investigation is currently underway.

According to the complaint, Gopi Jacks made highly objectionable and derogatory remarks about Constable Deepika Thakur during a recent press conference. The complainant stated that the singer made inappropriate comments regarding her physical appearance, causing severe harm to her personal dignity and social reputation.

The constable noted that the video of the press conference circulated widely across social media platforms. Following the viral release of the clip, she experienced intense mental agony, public humiliation, and loss of reputation. The name of another police officer has also surfaced in connection with the matter, which the police are currently investigating.

While undergoing medical treatment at Ripon Hospital in Shimla, Constable Thakur shared details regarding her severe mental stress. She stated that the public remarks and subsequent events adversely impacted her mental health, causing extreme harassment and leading to suicidal thoughts. She has urged the administration to ensure a fair investigation and deliver justice.

In a separate development, two female artists associated with the ‘Harmony of the Pines’ police band, along with female constables Deepika Thakur and Kritika, submitted a joint complaint at the Shimla Women Police Station. The joint filing alleges workplace mental harassment, defamation, illegal surveillance, and criminal conspiracy.

Police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered under relevant BNS provisions based on the complaints, and a thorough probe into all aspects of the case is in progress. Authorities added that independent verification of all allegations is currently pending as the investigation continues.
