South Cinema Dominates Box Office as ‘Drishyam 3’ Overtakes ‘Karuppu’ in Midweek Clash

Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 3’ continued its strong run at the box office by outperforming Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ in Wednesday collections. While both South films are enjoying massive audience support, Bollywood romance ‘Chaand Mera Dil’ is struggling badly despite heavy promotions and a big banner release.
South Cinema Dominates Box Office as ‘Drishyam 3’ Overtakes ‘Karuppu’ in Midweek Clash

Mumbai: Mohanlal and Suriya are locked in a fierce box office battle this week, with South cinema continuing its dominant run at theatres across the country.

Despite it being a working Wednesday, Mohanlal’s suspense-thriller Drishyam 3 managed to take the lead over Suriya’s action-drama Karuppu in terms of daily earnings. Meanwhile, Bollywood romantic film Chaand Mera Dil appears to be falling far behind in the race.

‘Drishyam 3’ Continues Its Strong Run
Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 has received an excellent response from both audiences and critics. The mystery surrounding Georgekutty’s character once again pulled viewers to theatres, helping the film collect a solid ₹6.65 crore on Wednesday.

With this, the film’s total Indian net collection has reached ₹75.30 crore.

Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ Holds Steady
Superstar Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s Karuppu is also showing impressive stability at the box office. After earning ₹14.45 crore on Sunday and ₹5.90 crore on Monday, the film added another strong ₹4 crore on Wednesday.

The film’s total Indian net collection has now crossed ₹163.20 crore.

‘Chaand Mera Dil’ Struggles at the Box Office
Released on May 22, 2026, Ananya Panday and Lakshya Lalwani’s romantic film Chaand Mera Dil is witnessing a disappointing run in theatres.

Despite aggressive PR campaigns and backing from a major banner, the film managed to earn only ₹1.90 crore on Wednesday. In six days of release, its total collection stands at just ₹15.35 crore, which is being seen as highly underwhelming.

Working Days Become the Real Test
For any film, the real box office test begins after the weekend during working days from Monday to Thursday. Drishyam 3 has passed this test comfortably, with its suspense factor continuing to attract audiences even on weekdays.

Bollywood Trails Behind South Cinema Again
The current box office trend clearly suggests that Bollywood is once again struggling to match the strength of South cinema. While Karuppu and Drishyam 3 continue to mint money at the ticket window, the Hindi romantic drama is still fighting to recover its costs.
