CHENNAI: Advance bookings for Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action entertainer Jailer 2 opened to an overwhelming response worldwide, crossing the ₹20-crore milestone in pre-sales within barely a day of tickets going live. With four days still remaining before the film’s theatrical release, all initial indicators suggest a massive, record-breaking opening at the box office.
Dominant Overseas Trends and Domestic Growth
Advance ticket sales for the film opened in select overseas markets earlier in the week, followed by India on October 10. In Kerala, bookings commenced on the morning of October 11. Despite this staggered rollout across regions, pre-sales crossed the ₹20-crore mark globally by Sunday morning (October 11). International markets led the charge, contributing nearly $2 million to the global total.
In India, even before full-fledged bookings opened across all states and centers on Saturday, the film grossed over ₹4 crore within a single day. Of this, Day 1 advance bookings accounted for more than ₹3.53 crore gross.
Tamil Nadu Leads Indian Pre-Sales
Tamil Nadu generated the lion’s share of domestic pre-sales, accounting for nearly 90 percent of the total collected across India. The city of Chennai alone generated ₹1.63 crore in pre-sales for the film.
Overall collection numbers are expected to surge significantly once advance bookings open full-scale across Kerala, along with the rest of the country for its Malayalam and Hindi-dubbed versions. While Rajinikanth films consistently perform strongly outside Tamil Nadu, the multi-star ensemble-along with heavy fan speculation surrounding a cameo by Hrithik Roshan-could further expand the film’s pan-India market.

Directed and written by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner. The film stars Rajinikanth alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa, while Mammootty and Shiva Rajkumar reprise their cameo appearances from the first installment.
Following the trailer drop, online speculation grew over a potential Hrithik Roshan cameo due to a teased silhouette, though the makers have not officially confirmed the appearance. Featuring a musical score by Anirudh Ravichander, Jailer 2 has been certified UA 16+ with a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The film is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on October 15.
