CHENNAI: Hours after reports emerged that the highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan had been leaked online, lead actress Pooja Hegde joined several stars from the Tamil and Telugu film industries to speak out against digital piracy.
The actress, who plays the female lead in the project, expressed her profound disappointment over the incident. Taking to Instagram Stories on Saturday, Hegde highlighted the collective effort and personal sacrifices involved in bringing a cinematic vision to life.
“My lovely audience. A film is the result of countless hours, creative risks, personal sacrifices, and a team that showed up every single day hoping to give you the best experience possible,” she wrote. Hegde noted that the leak is “disheartening” for every individual involved in the production.
According to Hegde, piracy undermines the respect that artists and technicians deserve for their craft. She emphasized that the issue is not merely about financial figures, but about the integrity of the art form and the people behind it.
“To see it being leaked and shared illegally is tough, not because of numbers, but because it takes away the respect that every artist and technician on the film deserves,” the actress added in her statement.
Hegde specifically appealed to the audience to honor Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before his transition into full-time politics. She urged fans to wait for the official release to celebrate the actor’s legacy on the big screen “in the right way.”
“Don’t we all deserve to gather together to celebrate and watch Vijay sir’s last film, one last time, on the big screen? Let’s not encourage piracy. That’s how cinema and art will survive,” she concluded.
Earlier, the film’s producers, KVN Productions, issued a formal statement addressing the situation. The production house confirmed that portions of the movie, and in some instances almost the entire film, had been circulated illegally across social media platforms.
Terming the incident a serious case of digital piracy, the makers stated that they are taking strict legal action against those responsible for the leak.
Jana Nayagan has already navigated a challenging path to the screen. Originally slated for a Pongal release on January 9, the film faced significant delays due to various certification issues. The leak represents a fresh hurdle for the production as it nears its official theatrical debut.
