Himachal Political Crisis: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, alleging a “well-planned conspiracy” to damage the reputation of the Congress-led government.

Speaking to the media at the Circuit House in Una, the Chief Minister claimed that the BJP has stationed social media influencers within its offices specifically to target Congress leaders. He was accompanied by Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri and several senior legislators.

CM Sukhu described this brand of digital warfare as a violation of “democratic decorum.” He asserted that unlike the previous regime, where administrative control rested solely with officials, the current government ensures policy decisions are made through the cabinet.

Addressing the state’s fiscal health, the Chief Minister revealed that his administration inherited a debt of ₹76,233 crore. While the current government has borrowed approximately ₹35,000 crore in three years, Sukhu clarified that ₹26,000 crore of that amount was utilized solely to repay old debts.

The Chief Minister further criticized the BJP for “politicizing disasters.” He noted that during the natural calamities of 2023 and 2025, BJP MPs failed to advocate for Himachal’s interests in Delhi. He specifically questioned the status of the ₹1,500 crore assistance previously announced by the Prime Minister.

In a separate interaction in Kullu, Sukhu took a direct swipe at Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur. Reacting to Thakur’s claims of a Congress “wipeout” in upcoming polls, Sukhu suggested the former CM is under “immense mental stress” due to internal party revolts.

“Jai Ram Thakur is fighting a battle to save his own chair,” Sukhu remarked. He claimed the Himachal BJP is currently split into five distinct factions, with discussions already underway within the party to replace Thakur as the Leader of the Opposition.

Reiterating his commitment to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, the Chief Minister stated that the public is closely observing the “negative politics” of the opposition. He concluded by alleging that the BJP has become an “opponent of state interests,” focused only on obstructing public welfare work.
