Himachal Tourism News: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has granted formal approval to 24 eco-tourism chapters in Himachal Pradesh. Prepared by the State Forest Department, these strategic plans are set to remain operational for the next 20 years, providing a structured roadmap for tourism growth.
Under this new initiative, eco-tourism has been integrated as a distinct chapter within the working plans of various forest divisions. This move transitions the focus toward “Green Travel,” ensuring that tourism activities do not compromise the state’s delicate natural resources or wildlife.
The approved sites will host a variety of low-impact activities designed to draw nature enthusiasts. Key highlights include organized camping, adventure sports, motor-biking trails, and the establishment of local food stalls and food vans to showcase regional flavors.
Unlike traditional tourism models, these chapters emphasize environmental conservation and responsibility. The government intends to aggressively advertise these sites as premier destinations for travelers who wish to experience the Himalayas while adhering to eco-friendly practices.
The project is expected to be a significant driver for the local economy. By opening up new terrains for exploration, the state government aims to create diverse employment opportunities for the youth in rural and forest-adjacent areas.
The development of these sites will follow a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Detailed activity plans are first submitted to the Nodal Officer and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) in Mandi before receiving final clearance from the Union Ministry.
The 24 approved divisions include Kullu, Parvati, Seraj, Palampur, Dharamshala, Theog, Shimla Rural, Rohru, Rampur, Kotgarh, Anni, Hamirpur, Una, Kutlehar, Bilaspur, Kunihar, Mandi, Nachan, Karsog, Dalhousie, Rajgarh, Paonta, Solan, and Nurpur.
Saroj Verma, Divisional Forest Officer (Eco-Tourism), stated that the Eco-Tourism Society of the Forest Department is working consistently toward making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant. She noted that this approval is a vital step in connecting people with nature while ensuring sustainable development.
