Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the BJP’s electoral campaign for West Bengal on Thursday, outlining six significant promises aimed at dismantling the current administrative framework. Addressing the public, the Prime Minister emphasized that a BJP-led government would replace the prevailing atmosphere of fear with a foundation of trust and restore the rule of law across the state.
The Prime Minister stated that the administrative machinery under his party would be made fully accountable and answerable to the citizens. He committed to reopening every file related to past scams, corruption, and injustices committed against women. Specifically, he noted that cases of rape and violence against daughters would be prioritized for legal retribution.
In a direct warning to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Prime Minister declared that any individual involved in corruption, regardless of their rank from minister to watchman, would face imprisonment. He asserted that no TMC operative would remain beyond the reach of the law once the government changes.
Addressing the sensitive issue of citizenship and migration, the Prime Minister promised that refugees would be granted their Constitutional rights. Conversely, he maintained a firm stance on illegal migration, stating that infiltrators would be driven out and would not be permitted to remain within Indian borders.
A major economic highlight of the address was the pledge to implement the 7th Pay Commission for state employees immediately upon forming the government. This move is intended to modernize the state’s fiscal commitments to its workforce and ensure an accountable bureaucracy.
The Prime Minister advocated for a “double-engine government,” arguing that West Bengal requires a synergy between the Centre and the State to achieve self-reliance. He highlighted that such a partnership would specifically benefit the fisheries and seafood sectors, bolstering the local economy.
As the 2026 election cycle commences, West Bengal prepares for a two-phase polling process scheduled for April 23 and April 29. While other regions conclude their voting, the focus remains on Bengal ahead of the comprehensive results announcement on May 4.
