Reuters Accounts Controversy: New Delhi, July 10, 2025: Social media platform X has revealed that the Indian government issued an order to block the X accounts of the international news group Reuters. This information was shared by X’s “Global Government Affairs” department in a recent post.
According to the post, on July 3, 2025, the Indian government directed X to block 2,355 accounts within India under Section 69A of the IT Act. This directive included the accounts of Reuters and Reuters World.
The post further stated that the government demanded immediate action within an hour, without providing any justification, and instructed that the accounts remain blocked until further notice. Following public backlash, the government reportedly requested X to unblock the Reuters and Reuters World accounts.
