Triumph Scrambler 400 XC: Because cross-spoke wheels are imported and attract import duties, they end up being much more expensive than standard alloy or wire-spoke wheels.
Earlier this May, Triumph launched the Scrambler 400 XC at a base price of Rs 2.94 lakh. Compared to the Scrambler 400 X, the XC version is built to handle more serious off-road adventures.
Scrambler 400 XC Tubeless Wheels – Pricing Details
On the Scrambler 400 XC, cross-spoke wheels come as standard equipment, so the XC’s price itself hasn’t changed. However, Triumph has now revealed how much these wheels cost separately. This is helpful for Scrambler 400 X owners who might want to upgrade their bikes for better off-road capability.
The Scrambler 400 X is originally equipped with cast aluminium alloy wheels (19-inch front and 17-inch rear). Swapping to cross-spoke wheels not only boosts off-road performance but also gives the bike a more classic, rugged look.
That said, the upgrade comes at a steep price. Triumph has set the cost of the complete cross-spoke wheel set at Rs 71,751. The front wheel alone costs Rs 34,876, while the rear wheel is priced at Rs 36,875. In other words, the price of these wheels is about 26% of the Scrambler 400 X’s total cost. While they have clear advantages, the high expense may discourage many owners from upgrading.
Warranty Limitations
Another important point to note: In India, there is currently no homologation (approval) process for tubeless spoke wheels. These cross-spoke wheels are imported because no local manufacturer produces them for Triumph. The same supplier provides wheels for models like the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and the Scrambler 1200 X.
Due to this lack of certification, fitting these wheels separately—even if installed by an authorised Triumph service centre—will void the warranty.
The Scrambler 400 XC is now the fourth locally made motorcycle in India to feature tubeless spoke wheels.
Other Bikes with Tubeless Spoke Wheels
Besides the Scrambler 400 XC, three other bikes in India offer tubeless wire-spoke wheels:
- Royal Enfield Himalayan 450
- Goan Classic 350
- KTM 390 Adventure
Recently, Royal Enfield increased the prices of the cross-spoke wheels offered for the Himalayan. Owners who want to upgrade now need to pay Rs 40,645 for the set—an increase from the earlier price of Rs 12,424 by Rs 28,221.
What Lies Ahead
As more riders show interest in tubeless wire-spoke wheels, there’s a good chance that testing standards and certification procedures will be developed in India, possibly by organisations like ARAI. In time, if demand keeps rising, local manufacturing may also start, making these wheels more accessible and affordable.
