The National Informatics Centre (NIC), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has launched a recruitment drive for 243 Scientist-B positions, targeting engineering graduates keen to contribute to India’s expanding digital governance ecosystem.

The hiring process will rely on GATE scores, reinforcing a merit-based selection system for candidates aiming to join one of the government’s key technology arms.

Vacancies and Pay Scale

The available positions are distributed across three technical streams:

Computer Science & IT: 168 posts

Electronics & Communication: 25 posts

Data Science & Artificial Intelligence: 50 posts

The Scientist-B role falls under the Group ‘A’ Gazetted category. Selected candidates will receive a Level-10 salary under the 7th Central Pay Commission, ranging from ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500, along with standard government allowances and benefits.

Eligibility and Selection Process

NIC noted that the number of vacancies is provisional and may be revised depending on operational requirements.

Applicants must possess a valid GATE score from 2024, 2025, or 2026. Accepted disciplines include:

Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)

Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC)

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA)

Candidates will be shortlisted strictly on the basis of their GATE scores. Those selected will proceed to document verification and a personal interview stage.
