KULLU LANDSLIDE UPDATES : A massive residential building collapsed on Thursday afternoon at Bandrol, located approximately 12 kilometers from Kullu district headquarters. The structure, owned by Radhe Shyam, succumbed to a sudden landslide that sent debris crashing down the hillside.
The incident occurred near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya despite the absence of immediate rainfall. Although the building was unoccupied at the exact moment of the collapse, the surrounding area remains under significant threat as the earth continues to shift.
Local authorities initiated an emergency evacuation of the adjacent Regenta Hotel, which was housing several tourists at the time. The hotel and the neighboring Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya have both been flagged as being at high risk due to the unstable slope.
Fear has gripped the local community as the memory of the August 2023 disaster remains fresh. During that period, eight multi-story buildings collapsed near the Anni bus stand under similar geological pressures.
Regional connectivity is also suffering as the Aut-Luhri-Sainj National Highway-305 has faced three major blockades this April alone. Residents are now demanding permanent safety measures from the administration before the monsoon season begins.
The situation in the Parvati Valley is equally precarious. Earlier this week, a landslide at Ghatigarh on the Barshaini route buried a car, highlighting the extreme vulnerability of the region’s infrastructure following recent snow and rain.
