Chamba Medical College Protest: Late Wednesday night, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Chamba turned into a site of intense conflict. Following the death of a patient, grieving relatives allegedly attempted to storm the Emergency Ward’s Operation Theatre. The mob targeted the on-duty female physician, Dr. Kritika, subjecting her to verbal abuse and physical intimidation.
Reports indicate that Dr. Kritika was forced to seek refuge inside the Operation Theatre to escape the advancing crowd. Private security guards stationed at the hospital intervened to protect the medical staff. The protesters reportedly attacked the guards with kicks and punches while attempting to vandalize the hospital premises.
In response to the violence, outsourced employees and medical staff initiated a massive sit-in protest at the college’s main gate on Thursday morning. The demonstration completely halted vehicular movement on the Balu road. The protesters are demanding immediate implementation of robust security protocols and stringent legal action against the perpetrators.
The local police administration has intervened to restore order in the area. Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani confirmed that a formal case has been registered against four identified individuals. Police have seized CCTV footage from the hospital to identify other participants in the mob.
Authorities have recorded statements from the injured security guards and the victimized doctor. Despite police presence, the “Chakka Jam” strike by the healthcare workers continued into the afternoon, causing significant disruptions to local traffic and hospital services.
