Himcare Scheme row: Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur spearheaded a massive protest against the Congress government at Bali Chowki in the Seraj assembly constituency of Mandi district. Addressing hundreds of BJP workers, Thakur alleged that the state government is orchestrating a conspiracy to shut down welfare schemes initiated by the previous administration.
He specifically targeted Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s claims regarding a scam in the Himcare scheme, questioning how a ₹120 crore fraud could occur at IGMC when the total payment made under the scheme at the institute was only ₹60 crore.
Thakur highlighted inconsistencies in the government’s official statements, noting that the administration initially alleged a ₹1100 crore scam in the state assembly. However, when actual data revealed that the total expenditure on treatment was only ₹441 crore, the government backtracked on its figures.
The former Chief Minister stated that the frequent shifting of goalposts by the current regime indicates an attempt to hide the truth and mislead the public. He warned that if the government continues to create confusion over public interest issues, the BJP will intensify its protests across the state.
