NEET SS 2025 Round 2: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced a further extension of the choice-filling facility for the NEET SS 2025 Round 2 counselling. Moving away from the previously established deadline of April 7, the committee has now deferred the closing date “until further orders,” leaving thousands of super-specialty aspirants in a state of watchful anticipation.
According to an official statement released on the MCC portal, candidates are advised to remain in constant contact with the website for forthcoming updates. The delay comes at a critical juncture, as the academic session for the 2025 Super Specialty courses was originally slated to commence today, April 10, 2026.
Academic Session and Upgradation Protocols
Despite the extension, the MCC has provided clarity regarding the commencement of duties. Candidates who are satisfied with their Round 1 allocations and do not seek an upgrade in Round 2 are permitted to join their respective departments at allotted institutes immediately.
Conversely, those opting for the upgradation facility in the second round are required to report for duty only after the declaration of the Round 2 results. This dual-track approach ensures that departmental operations are not entirely stalled by the administrative extension.
Revised Seat Matrix: Additions and Withdrawals
The extension follows a crucial update to the seat matrix. The MCC confirmed the addition of 18 new seats across various specialties and states, following fresh approvals from participating institutes. This revision, however, also saw the withdrawal of one seat, bringing the net change to 19 total modifications.
These adjustments are intended to maximize the opportunities for candidates, though they necessitate a careful re-evaluation of preference lists during the current window.
Protocol for Choice Filling and Locking
To finalize their selections, candidates must log in to the official MCC portal (mcc.nic.in) using their registered credentials. The committee emphasizes a rigorous nine-step process to ensure valid submissions:
Registration: Payment of the non-refundable fee (INR 5,000) and the refundable security deposit (INR 200,000) must be confirmed.
Analysis: Candidates should scrutinize the updated seat matrix to identify specialty-specific availability.
Selection: Options should be entered in order of preference. The MCC recommends including a maximum number of choices to enhance allotment probability.
Finalization: While the system automatically locks choices upon the eventual deadline, manual locking via the ‘Lock’ button is strongly advised to ensure the final list reflects the candidate’s exact intent.
The MCC has yet to announce the revised schedule for seat allotment and the final date for choice locking.
