Platinum prices in India opened with significant strength on Tuesday morning. The precious metal was trading with a gain of Rs 500 in the early hours of May 5. However, on a comparative basis, today’s rate is approximately Rs 450 per 10 grams lower than Monday’s market closing.
Currently, platinum is trading at Rs 60,010 per 10 grams in major markets. If you are planning to purchase the white metal today, it is advisable to verify the exact local rate before making a decision.
The pricing trend remains uniform across the country. Platinum rates are nearly identical across all major states and metropolitan cities. In key hubs like Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Jaipur, Bhopal and Indore, the metal is retailing around Rs 60,010 per 10 grams.
The growing consumer shift towards platinum is being driven largely by the record-high price of gold. With 10 grams of gold now hovering near Rs 1.50 lakh, household budgets are under visible pressure. Previously, most buyers preferred 22 or 24-carat gold, but the scenario is changing rapidly.
Cost-conscious customers are now opting for 18, 14, or even 9-carat jewellery to manage expenses. The market has responded by offering lightweight, stylish, and budget-friendly designs. This shift is not limited to low-carat gold. The demand for platinum is also rising, especially among young buyers who favour its simple and modern aesthetic. As inflation pinches pockets, consumers are actively exploring affordable alternatives to traditional gold.
