Bhagwant Mann Statement on Punjab Blasts: The twin blasts reported in Amritsar and Jalandhar have triggered a fierce political storm in Punjab and prompted a multi-agency security probe. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a direct and scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, even as the Punjab Police chief independently indicated the hand of Pakistan-backed elements behind the explosions.
Addressing the media in Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar, Chief Minister Mann stated that the blasts could be a part of the BJP’s poll preparations. He alleged that the party’s strategy involves creating an atmosphere of fear and communal division ahead of elections. Mann asserted that orchestrating small-scale blasts and riots to polarize voters on religious and caste lines is the BJP’s established method of seeking political advantage.

Departing sharply from this political narrative, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday visited the blast sites. After inspecting the spot near the boundary wall of the Army area at Khasa Cantonment in Amritsar, the DGP revealed a different investigative lead. Preliminary findings, he stated, suggest a conspiracy linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
The DGP further expressed suspicion that the incident might be part of a larger plot to destabilize Punjab, particularly because the anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor’ is approaching. Separately, a fire was reported in a two-wheeler near the BSF headquarters in Punjab Frontier, Jalandhar, which was followed by a blast.

Multiple specialized units, including bomb disposal squads and forensic experts, have been fully activated. The police confirmed that an FIR has been registered under relevant sections. A coordinated investigation involving the Army and other central agencies is underway to examine human intelligence and technical inputs.
Adding to this, National Investigation Agency teams have also been dispatched to Amritsar and Jalandhar to gather evidence and assist the Punjab Police. Security has been tightened across the region, and authorities in Amritsar temporarily restricted public movement in some sensitive areas on Wednesday. Assistant Sub-Inspector Karam Singh stated that a few roads were closed for surveillance.
The blast occurred around 10:50 PM on Tuesday night. While no casualties were reported, the opposition has also intensified its attack on the ruling government. Congress leaders, including Raj Kumar and Partap Singh Bajwa, termed the twin explosions a deep conspiracy, slamming the state’s deteriorating law and order and demanding swift identification of the culprits.
The Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring also labelled the security breach extremely alarming and demanded accountability from the state government. Security agencies maintain they are thoroughly examining every angle to prevent future incidents.
