According to a PTI report, the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit flagged the risk of honey-traps due to players and officials coming into contact with unknown persons. The unit warned that such contacts could be exploited to leak important tournament or match data. No person, regardless of their relationship with a team member, can enter a player’s or support staff member’s hotel room without prior information to the team manager and written permission.
Guests coming to meet players or support staff are allowed only in the hotel lobby or reception lounge. Without written permission from the team manager, no guest will be taken to a private room in the hotel. This rule is designed to prevent private, unmonitored encounters.
All franchises are warned about the dangers of ‘targeted compromise’ and ‘honey-trapping’, which are common during high-profile tournaments.
