Delhi School Summer Vacation Dates News: The Directorate of Education has officially declared the summer vacation schedule for all government schools in the national capital for the year 2026. According to an official circular issued by the School Branch, regular classroom teaching will remain suspended from May 11 to June 30, marking a 51-day break for the majority of students.
However, the break will not be a complete holiday for a specific section of learners. The government has meticulously planned a remedial teaching programme targeting students of Classes 9, 10, and 12 who require additional academic intervention. These special classes are scheduled to commence from May 11 and will conclude on May 23, operating strictly within the first phase of the vacation period.
The initiative will run on all working days, excluding Sundays, and its execution is contingent upon the availability of teaching staff and adequate infrastructure in the respective schools. As per the detailed timetable released by the department, students are required to report to campus by 7:30 am and will be engaged in focused study until 10:30 am.
Each day of the remedial schedule has been divided into three distinct classroom periods, each spanning exactly one hour. Teachers, on the other hand, are mandated to remain present on the school premises from 7:20 am until 11:00 am to facilitate the smooth conduct of these morning sessions.
The official communication specifies that for Classes 9 and 10, the core focus will remain on Science and Mathematics. These subjects have been strategically chosen considering their critical role in determining student promotion and overall readiness for board examinations. Nonetheless, the Head of School retains the discretionary authority to introduce additional subjects based on a thorough assessment of learning gaps and previous results.
For senior secondary students in Class 12, the selection of subjects for remedial instruction has been left entirely to the Head of School. The decision will be driven by local academic requirements and a data-based analysis of student performance.
To ensure discipline and administrative efficiency, the Directorate has laid down a strict set of implementation guidelines. Attendance for all students attending these sessions will be digitally recorded on a daily basis. Furthermore, no student will be permitted to join the remedial programme without prior written parental consent or a valid No Objection Certificate.
Schools have been explicitly instructed to ensure that students wear their regular prescribed uniform during the classes. In a move to provide holistic support, library rooms will remain operational for self-study purposes and the issuance of books. Adequate arrangements for safe drinking water and other essential amenities must also be ensured by the school administration.
For educational institutions operating on a double-shift pattern, the remedial lessons will be conducted independently within each shift’s designated wing. Wherever there is a shortage of regular teaching staff, schools have been authorised to utilise the services of guest or contract teachers. The circular further mandates that District Deputy Directors of Education will maintain strict vigilance and continuous monitoring of the programme’s adherence throughout the summer vacation window.
