Amritsar Schoolgirl Suicide News: The Punjab Education Department has cracked down on the management of DDI School on Fatehgarh Churian Road following the tragic suicide of a 11th-grade student.
A district education department team, led by District Education Officer (Secondary) Rajesh Kumar and Deputy District Education Officer Rajesh Khanna, visited the school premises on Monday and Tuesday to investigate. However, the team had to return empty-handed as the school gates and rooms were locked.
No representative from the school management was available to meet or speak with the visiting officials. Consequently, the Amritsar Education Department has issued a formal letter to the DDI School management seeking an explanation regarding the student’s suicide, but they are yet to receive a response.
Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered strict action against the DDI School management. The Punjab government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and has stated that no accused from the school management will be spared.
The 17-year-old student, identified as Amjot Kaur, took her own life after allegedly being unable to pay her school fees. The Class 11 student reportedly consumed a poisonous substance, distressed by the alleged harassment she faced at the school. After battling for her life in a hospital for several days, she passed away late Saturday night. Following her demise, her family demanded stringent action against the school management.
The victim’s mother, Sarabjit Kaur, leveled serious allegations against the school administration. She stated that around ₹20,000 was outstanding for her daughter’s admission and tuition fees.
According to the mother, the girl was publicly humiliated over the pending dues by the principal and other staff members on May 22. The family alleged that this harrowing incident left the teenager deeply traumatized and mentally distressed, driving her to take the extreme step.
