HAMIRPUR: On Friday, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the 250-metre-long double-lane motorable and footpath Sadhora Pattan bridge over the Beas river in the Nadaun Assembly constituency, to be built at a cost of ₹31.19 crore. Addressing a public gathering afterwards, CM Sukhu said the bridge will connect Dobad Kalan village in Nadaun to Silh village in the Jwalamukhi area of Kangra.
It will benefit more than 30,000 people across 15 gram panchayats of Nadaun and Jwalamukhi, besides people in the Sujanpur area. The bridge will strengthen road connectivity between the two regions, reduce travel distance and time, and boost social and economic activity.
Preparations to Reclaim Dhaulasidh Project
CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the state government will take back the Dhaulasidh hydroelectric project from SJVN and will pay ₹800 crore for it. The state government is committed to protecting Himachal’s rights and will not compromise on this in any manner.
CM Counters Anurag Thakur
Responding to MP Anurag Singh Thakur’s claims regarding the Hamirpur Medical College, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “This college is not a gift from the BJP. It was approved during the tenure of then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the notification was issued on January 22, 2014.
At that time, the central government had sanctioned ₹180 crore. During his (Thakur’s) tenure as MLA, forest clearance was obtained for the construction of the medical college, and now this college will start in two months. The Centre did not provide any assistance for its construction, and the state government has contributed ₹450 crore from its own budget.”
North India’s First Cancer Institute
The Chief Minister said that North India’s first cancer institute is being built at the medical college with Japanese collaboration at a cost of about ₹500 crore. Another ₹150 crore has been provided for the construction of a super-specialty block.
Health facilities are being improved in the state’s medical colleges. Automated labs on the lines of AIIMS Delhi are being set up at a cost of about ₹28-28 crore each, where 1,200 tests can be conducted from a single sample.
Kangra to Be Developed as Tourism Capital
He said Kangra is being developed as the tourism capital and Hamirpur as the education capital. An Allied Healthcare College is being established in Nadaun and the state’s first science college in Hamirpur, for which ₹100 crore has been provisioned.
An excellence centre for sports is also being built in Nadaun, which will be inaugurated in October. He said a Sukhashray complex is being developed in Luthan at a cost of ₹150 crore and a riverfront along the Beas in Nadaun at a cost of ₹400 crore. Beas Aarti will also be started there.
