Opposition INDIA Bloc to March to Supreme Court Tomorrow, Seek CJI Meeting

SHIMLA: In a major political escalation, opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc are scheduled to assemble at India Gate on Monday before marching to the Supreme Court. The leaders plan to meet Chief Justice of India Surya Kant after 4 PM to present a formal memorandum regarding ongoing electoral concerns.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who was absent from the previous two marches, will join the protest alongside key leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

The protest comes after security forces deployed heavy security in central Delhi, halting previous demonstrations organised under a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led movement that called for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Calls for Joint Action Over Electoral Revision and CEC Resignation
Detailing the objectives of the demonstration, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated that the march aims to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice on behalf of the nation. The delegation intends to demand an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, and an end to alleged electoral irregularities.

Rahul Gandhi appealed to citizens, youth, civil society groups, and political organisations to join the demonstration, urging participants to remain united. He also condemned the handling of peaceful protesters at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, alleging that young demonstrators had been subjected to violence by security personnel and political opponents during the gathering.

Highlighting the strategy, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal urged citizens concerned about democratic institutions to participate in the capital-wide protest. He confirmed that senior leaders of the INDIA bloc will personally hand over the memorandum to CJI Surya Kant seeking judicial intervention in the matter.
