iPhone Duo Launch: After keeping out of the foldable segment while competitors made their moves, Apple has officially entered the market with the launch of its first foldable device, the iPhone Duo. Operating like a standard smartphone when folded, the device opens up into a large tablet-style screen, marking a significant shift in how users interact with iPhones.
Pricing and Availability
In India, the iPhone Duo is priced starting at ₹2,99,900, while its global starting price is set at $1,999. The device offers storage options ranging from 256GB up to 2TB, positioning it at the apex of Apple’s premium portfolio to directly target the ultra-premium foldable segment.
Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo in India begin on October 16, with official sales starting on October 23, 2026—arriving nearly a month after the iPhone 18 Pro series.
Foldable Display and Design
The highlight of the iPhone Duo is its display setup. When closed, it features a 5.4-inch outer display. Unfolded, it transitions into a 7.6-inch internal display—the largest screen ever offered on an iPhone. Both screens support ProMotion and Always-On display features. Apple has utilized new technology to reduce crease visibility, maintaining an unfolded thickness of approximately 5.2 mm.
Built with a titanium frame, the book-style foldable offers IP68 water and dust resistance and comes in two color options: Star White and Night Sky.
Performance and Software Integration
Under the hood, the device is powered by the 2nm-based A20 Pro chip featuring a 32-core Neural Engine, aimed at accelerating multitasking and AI workloads. It also introduces Apple’s in-house designed C2 modem.
The device runs on iOS 27, which has been tailored specifically for the foldable interface. Users can run two apps side by side, allowing simultaneous tasks like video calling while checking messages. Apple demonstrated these multitasking functions with applications such as Zoom and Slack.
Camera, Battery, and Security Changes
For photography, the iPhone Duo carries two 48MP rear cameras (main and ultra-wide), alongside an under-display selfie camera on the inner screen and another camera on the outer display. The foldable format also allows for new setups during group FaceTime calls and selfies.
In a departure from recent models, Apple has omitted Face ID in favor of Touch ID built into the side power button. The physical SIM tray has also been removed, making the phone strictly eSIM-dependent. Eliminating the SIM tray freed up internal space, allowing Apple to implement a dual-cell battery design with one battery placed in each half of the device.
The dual-cell battery architecture delivers approximately 24 hours of standard usage and up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen. Fast charging capabilities allow the device to reach a 50% charge in about 20 minutes.
