Kangra: Dehra police in Kangra district froze illegal assets worth more than ₹39.48 lakh. The action targeted a 47-year-old drug trafficker named Shareef Din. He is a resident of Balahar village in Khundiyan tehsil.
Police identified and froze a residential building and land worth nearly ₹14.09 lakh. The property is recorded under khasra number 1819, with an area of 0-01-35 hectares. Officials said the accused built the property using money from drug sales.
SP Dehra Mayank Chaudhary told reporters the action followed an order from the competent authority in New Delhi dated April 30, 2026. The freeze was executed under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Locals said the accused had been active in drug peddling for years.
Police said four cases are already registered against Shareef Din. These include NDPS Act charges related to charas seizures. This is the second major financial action in the district. Earlier, police had frozen assets worth ₹25.38 lakh in another case. Total frozen illegal assets now stand at ₹39.48 lakh. Police confirmed zero tolerance against drug traffickers will continue.
Kangra Court Sentences Man to 10 Years for Attack on Elderly Woman Today
In another case in Kangra district, A judicial magistrate court in Dehra has convicted a man for a violent attack on an elderly woman. The court sentenced Mahindra, a resident of Rakkar village in Kangra district, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. He was found guilty under IPC Section 307 for attempted murder.
The attack took place on March 19, 2024. The accused attacked his 85-year-old neighbor, Maya Devi, on her head. She suffered serious injuries. The victim’s daughter-in-law, Nirmala Devi, filed a police complaint at Rakkar police station. Locals said the accused had a history of aggressive behavior in the neighbourhood.
Apart from the 10-year term, the court imposed a fine of ₹15,000 under Section 307. Under Section 452 (house trespass), Mahindra got 7 years and a ₹10,000 fine. He was also punished under Sections 323 (voluntary hurt), 504 (insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Police completed the investigation and presented strong evidence. The court found the accused guilty based on that evidence.
