Himachal Govt Grants 15-Day Academic Leave to Medical College Faculty

Shimla : The Himachal Pradesh government has accepted a long-pending demand of medical educators, granting up to 15 days of academic leave per calendar year to faculty members serving in state-run medical and dental colleges, as well as AIIMS Chamiana in Shimla.

The decision comes shortly after a delegation of doctors met Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to present their key concerns. Following the Chief Minister’s approval, the state government issued a formal notification to implement the new leave policy.

Under the revised norms, faculty members can utilize this academic leave to attend conferences, conduct inspections, or perform examination duties at other universities and institutions outside the state. It will also cover inspection assignments assigned by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the National Dental Commission (NDC) outside Himachal Pradesh.

However, the notification specifies that the state government will not bear any travel allowance (TA), daily allowance (DA), or other incidental expenses incurred during such academic leaves.

Additionally, the government clarified that faculty members deputed as NMC or NDC examiners and inspectors within Himachal Pradesh’s government medical and dental colleges – including AIIMS Chamiana – will be treated as being officially on duty.
