Hamirpur: Drug Raid Turns Violent as Attack Dog Is Set on Police Team

Hamirpur: A police raid based on specific intelligence about illegal drug trafficking took a violent turn in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district when suspects allegedly set a ferocious dog on the inspecting team, leaving one personnel injured. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Sunday in the Tiala Da Ghat area.

Following confidential inputs regarding drug transportation via a vehicle, a joint team from the Hamirpur Police Station and the Bhota Police Post reached the location. Upon arrival, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked near a residential house along the roadside and initiated questioning with the individual sitting in the front seat.

According to police sources, an individual sitting in the rear seat fled into the adjoining house upon noticing the officers. Moments later, a dog was allegedly unleashed from inside the house to attack the raiding party.

While two officers managed to dodge the animal, a third policeman was caught in the attack, sustaining deep bite wounds to his abdomen. Two women present at the scene also allegedly attempted to obstruct the police officers from carrying out their duty. The injured personnel was immediately taken for a medical examination and administered anti-rabies treatment.

Superintendent of Police Hamirpur, Balbir Singh Thakur, confirmed the incident, stating that the five individuals present at the site refused to cooperate with the inspecting team. He stated that the accused used their pet dog to attack the personnel on duty, resulting in injuries to one officer.

Police have registered a case against five individuals-three men and two women-under Sections 132 and 121 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A detailed investigation is underway to determine whether illicit substances were present in the vehicle and to establish the precise roles of all five individuals involved.
