IRS Vidisha Kalra : In a moment of immense pride for Himachal Pradesh, senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Vidisha Kalra has assumed charge as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for the Karnataka and Goa region. The command of one of the country’s most prestigious revenue service zones has now been entrusted to a daughter of the hill state.
Hailing from Kagarani village in the Ghumarwin area of Bilaspur district, Ms Kalra’s journey to this apex-level position is profoundly inspirational. She completed her early education at the Government Kanya Pathshala in Bilaspur’s Raura Sector. Advancing towards higher studies, she pursued her graduation and post-graduation from Panjab University, Chandigarh, where she also earned an M.Phil degree in Political Science.
After completing her higher education, Vidisha Kalra cleared the prestigious IRS examination in 1991, marking the beginning of her significant contribution to the country’s administrative framework. According to departmental sources, during her extensive career, she has served on various challenging and critical assignments within the Income Tax Department. Prior to her elevation, she had successfully served as Chief Commissioner in Panchkula and Shimla.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) recently promoted her to the Level-17 post of Principal Chief Commissioner, recognizing her stellar administrative acumen. Following the promotion, Ms Kalra has been handed the complete reins of Income Tax administration in the Karnataka and Goa region, a territory considered extremely crucial from the perspective of revenue and tax collection. She will now lead the administrative and policy-related activities of the department in this vast zone.
Since her ascension to this top leadership role, a wave of happiness has swept through her ancestral village and surrounding regions. Local residents and well-wishers firmly believe that her achievement is a matter of extreme pride for Ghumarwin and the whole state. Seen as a daughter of Himachal, her success is being hailed as a major source of inspiration for the younger generation, especially for the daughters of the region.
