Kinnaur Labour Camp Fire: A tragic news has come from Pangi village in Kinnaur district. Two workers were burned to death in a massive fire at the Kashang Hydroelectric Project labor camp. Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the fire was a short circuit or a burning cigarette, and police are investigating the matter.
According to the information received the incident occurred around 1 am on Tuesday night. The camp was linked to the Kashang hydropower project. The fire erupted inside an iron shed where three workers were sleeping.
The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Kumar, 33, from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, and Jagat Ware Rukaya, 31, from Nepal. A third worker, Sarwan from Uttarakhand, managed to escape safely. Other labourers tried to control the flames, but the fire had already turned intense.
Police said ASI Sanjeev reached the spot with his team late Tuesday night. By then, fire department officials and project staff had already doused the blaze. Several vehicles and machinery parked nearby were saved.
An eyewitness said, “The flames spread within minutes. It was terrifying.” Initial investigation points to a short circuit or a lit cigarette. Plyboard and wiring inside the shed may have fuelled the fire. A forensic team visited the site on Wednesday to collect evidence. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
