Himachal Road Accidents News: A tragic Monday unfolded across Himachal Pradesh as two separate road accidents claimed six lives and left three persons injured, shaking the hilly state’s residents and prompting local administrations to launch investigations.
The first incident took place in Hamirpur district on the Khedi-Dhabdiyana connecting road within the Badsar sub-division. A Santro car, bearing registration number HP 22D-3596 and carrying four relatives, lost control and fell into a 150-foot-deep gorge. The vehicle broke apart upon impact, eyewitnesses told authorities.
The passengers were identified as 64-year-old driver Prithvi Chand, his 59-year-old wife Saroj Kumari, his 74-year-old brother-in-law Ramesh Chand, and 69-year-old sister Santosh Kumari, all residents of Lapodu village. Ramesh Chand was declared dead at the accident site. Santosh Kumari succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while Saroj Kumari was referred to Hamirpur District Hospital in serious condition. Driver Prithvi Chand continues to receive medical treatment.
DSP Badsar Lalman Sharma confirmed an official investigation has commenced. The administration announced financial assistance of ₹25,000 each for the kin of the deceased and ₹5,000 for the injured. SDM Badsar Swati Dogra expressed condolences and assured full support to the victims’ families.
In the second incident within Sirmaur district’s Sangrah sub-division, a car traveling from Theer Dhar to Gattadhar met with disaster near Piyuleelani. The vehicle, registered SP 79-2756, fell into a 300-foot-deep gorge around 9 a.m. after its steering reportedly locked. Four of the five occupants died in the crash.
The deceased included 52-year-old teacher Amra Devi, her 14-year-old daughter Aradhya, Priyanka, daughter of Deep Ram from Uncha Tikkar, and 62-year-old Sajjan Singh of Gattadhar. One passenger, 33-year-old Ajit Kumar, sustained injuries. Locals and police teams jointly conducted rescue operations before the bodies were sent to Sangrah Hospital for post-mortem.
SDM Sangrah Sunil Kayath confirmed the investigation into the accident’s cause is ongoing, while immediate financial relief was provided to the grieving families. The twin tragedies have cast a pall of mourning across Himachal Pradesh and renewed attention on the dangers of hill road travel.
