Chandigarh BJP Office Blast: Security agencies have been placed on high alert following a low-intensity blast outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37 on Wednesday evening. The incident occurs just 36 hours after a similar grenade attack on a police station in Amritsar, signaling a volatile shift in the region’s security landscape.

The explosion took place around 5:00 PM, prompting an immediate mobilization of elite units. Investigators from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Indian Army, and the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) have joined local authorities to probe the breach.

Suspects Caught on Camera
CCTV footage recovered from the scene shows a suspect pulling the pin of a hand grenade before hurling it and fleeing the premises. Further analysis of regional surveillance has identified two suspects on a motorcycle who were observed scouting the area both before and after the attack.

In response, Chandigarh has been virtually sealed. Police have established intensive checkpoints across all major exit and entry points, conducting rigorous vehicle inspections as the manhunt for the bikers intensifies.

The timing of the attack is being viewed with extreme gravity by intelligence officials. With the Punjab Assembly elections approaching, authorities believe separatist elements are actively attempting to destabilize the state. Sukhjinder Singh Babbar, a Khalistani supporter, has claimed responsibility for the strike.

This latest breach has raised urgent questions regarding the efficacy of the Chandigarh Police and the rising crime graph in what is typically considered one of India’s safest cities. Experts warn that without immediate and decisive intervention, the security situation could deteriorate further.

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar condemned the incident, framing it as a direct assault on the state’s peace.

“The recurring incidents in Punjab over recent days raise serious questions about the prevailing law and order situation,” Jakhar stated. “While separatist forces are attempting to disrupt the atmosphere, the unity of Punjab cannot be weakened.”

As forensic teams continue to sweep the site for evidence, the multi-agency probe remains focused on uncovering the wider network behind these back-to-back attacks.
