India Weather Alert: New Delhi, As the month of May commenced, several parts of the country experienced a welcome change in weather with the India Meteorological Department issuing widespread alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall. After days of severe heat, many states are set to receive relief today and in the coming days.
Delhi-NCR Weather Update
In Delhi, light rain accompanied by hail was reported in some areas on Thursday. The weather department has forecast a possibility of rain and hail again on May 1. The maximum temperature is likely to drop to around 36°C, providing some respite from the recent heat.
Uttar Pradesh on Alert
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness thunderstorms and rain today. The IMD has issued alerts for heavy rain and strong winds in Saharanpur, Meerut, Noida, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Balrampur, Kanpur, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Sonbhadra and Mau. The weather is expected to turn pleasant in these areas due to the rain and storm activity.
Bihar Weather Alert
The weather is also likely to change in Bihar today. Thunderstorm and rain warnings have been issued for Gaya, Patna, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Saran, Bhojpur, Buxar, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj, Khagaria and Bhagalpur. People have been advised to exercise caution while stepping out.
Heavy Rain Alert in Himalayan States
The hill states are also expected to receive rainfall today. In Uttarakhand, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms and heavy rain in Bageshwar, Nainital, Chamoli, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal and Tehri Garhwal.
In Himachal Pradesh, thunderstorm and rain alerts have been sounded for Chamba, Shimla, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti, Sirmaur, Solan, Kangra and Una districts.

Rajasthan Weather Outlook
In Rajasthan, light rain in the past few days has led to a marginal drop in temperatures. The meteorological department has indicated that another western disturbance may affect the state over the next four to five days, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds of 40-50 kmph, and light to moderate rainfall in several areas.
West Bengal Rainfall Forecast
In West Bengal, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in the sub-Himalayan districts till May 3. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms and rain in most districts due to moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Kalimpong are expected to receive heavy rainfall during this period.
This widespread weather activity marks the beginning of the pre-monsoon season in many parts of the country. While it brings relief from the intense heat, authorities have urged people to remain cautious of lightning, strong winds, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Farmers have been advised to secure standing crops and harvested produce.
